The 9 Sign Miracles of Jesus in John

  1. Water into wine  (John 2:11) Jesus turned water into wine to bless a wedding celebration - Moses turned water into blood as the 1st plague on Egypt. The fish died. People could not drink the water. (Exodus 7:14)
  2. The official's son (John 4:43-54) Pharaoh’s first born son died as part of the last plague on Egypt (Exodus 12:29)
  3. Healing at the pool of Bethesda (John 5:1-15) Jesus healed a crippled man on a sabbath day- God told Moses to institute a festival to remind the Jews of their day of freedom. The Sabbath Day Rest was established. (Exodus 12:16) No work was to be done other than to eat.
  4. Jesus feeds the five thousand (John 6:1-15) God provided bread from heaven (Mana). (Exodus 16)
  5. Jesus walks on water (John 6:16) Jesus came down from the mountainside. He walked on the water to get to the disciples then got into the boat bringing peace and calm to the situation - God came down to the mountain and the people were afraid. God spoke face to face with Moses. (Exodus 20)
  6. The man born blind (John 9:1-12) Jesus healed a blind man by placing mud in his eye. He then told the man to wash in the pool of Siloam (meaning sent). The man later told the Pharisees that Jesus was a prophet - God told Moses about a prophet that would come and that we should listen to him. (Deuteronomy 18:14)
  7. Lazarus is raised from the dead (John 11:1-45) Jesus showed that he had the power to raise the dead and give life. - Moses placed a serpent on a stick. People that were bitten would look at bronze snake and would live. (Numbers 21:8)

  9. The 2nd miraculous catch of fish (John 21:4-11) Jesus told the disciples to cast their nets on other side of the boat. The 1st miraculous catch of fish was nearly identical when he called them to be his disciples. - We need to be directed by Jesus. Do we hear his voice? Are we following him? Jesus provides restoration to Peter. Jesus wanted to eat with his friends to have fellowship. Jesus had prepared food and was ready to serve them. If anyone is thirsty, come and drink. If any are tired, I will give you rest. If hungry, I will give you food. God is good, kind, loving, forgiving, and wants fellowship with us. (1+5+3 = 9).
